Microsoft’s sale of Windows 8 Pro for only $40 ends on Thursday.  If you haven’t taken advantage of the sale, time is quickly running out!

If you’ve purchased a Windows 8 (Sadly, not Windows RT) tablet, ultrabook or other computer and you attempt to upgrade directly through the “Add Features To Windows” function, you do not get this discount, and the Pro upgrade price is $70.

However, if you have a, XP, Vista or Windows 7 computer that you can run the Windows Upgrade Assistant on, you can purchase the upgrade from your computer, and then STOP and not download the Windows 8 software for that computer and use the activation code on your Windows 8 computer and save yourself $30!  You can also run the assistant again and purchase a second copy if you think you may want to upgrade another computer in the future.

And, if you purchased your Windows 7 computer since June of 2012, you can upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for only $15!  You will need the Product Key for your Windows 7 computer to complete the transaction.

If you take advantage of either upgrade option, don’t forget to snag yourself a FREE copy of Windows Media Center.

  1. Am I the only one who thinks Microsoft must be insane if they raise the price for Windows 8 now? Apparently rapid deployment of Win 8 is not that important to them if they are raising the price after such a fizzling introduction.

    • I agree with you. I think they need to keep it affordable, because that is what will get those who are curious to try it or to upgrade. It worked for me. =P

    • Also agree – Win8 is certainly not taking the world by storm either in sales or popular opinion. Most people are really just settling in on Win7 during the last year or two, so for most only a new computer would require a change.
