ASUS PadFone Infinity Phone and Tablet

During the first day of MWC, ASUS showed off a number of new products. The ASUS PadFone Infinity is a powerful quad-core, LTE-equipped smartphone and redesigned tablet into which it docks. The tablet looks like any old tablet from the front but, flip it over and you’ll see that its brains actually come from the companion phone docked into it.

The phone portion of the ASUS PadFone Infinity is a 5″ 1080p handset with a Snapdragon 600 processor. The phone runs Android 4.2, weighs 141g and has a 2400mAh battery. With 2GB of RAM, the phone will be offered with 32GB and 64GB storage capacities. For connectivity the device offers 802.11b/g/n, 802.11ac with WiFi Direct, BT 4.0 and the NFC Judie discussed in this week’s Gear Diary Newsletter. The ASUS PadFone Infinity has a 13MP camera on the back with a f/2.0 aperture lens that helps with shooting in low light. A 2MP front facing camera is also present for self-portraits and video chats.

As we have seen with its predecessor, the ASUS PadFone Infinity docks into a 10″ 1920 x 1200 tablet. This time out it is known as the PadFone Infinity Station. The tablet dock weighs in at 530g and adds a 5000mAh battery into the mix. The tablet has a 1MP front facing camera but relies on the phone’s 13MP shooter for on the back. From the front you wouldn’t even know it was anything other than a tablet.

When it ships in April it will cost just under a thousand Euro. And if you live in the US you’ll have to add the price of a plane ticket. Yes, like previous PadFones, the ASUS PadFone Infinity won’t be released in the US. You can find more details here.

  1. I’d like this a lot but, again, disappointed that Asus isn’t working with….well anyone to make this a reality here in the states. There’s one reason: The carriers would rather sell you 2 data plans versus only one.
