Gear Diary Pelican ProGear S130 Sport Elite Laptop/Camera Backpack Now Available photo

Before CES 2013 I reviewed the Pelican ProGear S100 Elite Backpack. It is a serious backpack for people who need serious protection for their laptop, tablet and assorted gear in the go. Now the company has released their Pelican ProGear S130 Sport Elite Laptop/Camera backpack. The Pelican ProGear S130 Sport Elite Laptop/Camera Backpack features the same basic design as the ProGear S130 Sport Elite but offers the addition of a protective divider pack for cameras in addition to the built-in watertight and crushproof case for laptops. If you bring your photographic lab with you on the go this backpack may be exactly what you’ve been looking for.

Check out our video review of the ProGear S100.

The Pelican ProGear S130 Sport Elite Laptop/Camera Backpack features a crushproof Pelican case with a watertight seal and automatic pressure-equalization valve. It is a great way to all but guarantee your notebook and other accessories are safe and secure. And since the S130 is designed to serve as a camera bag as well it also includes a high-impact compartment that helps organize and protect a camera body, extra lenses and flash equipment. The dividers can be removed so that, when you are not carrying your camera gear you have a generous storage area that can serve as a day or weekend bag.

Finally it is worth noting that the main portion of the backpack is top-loading, and the TSA-ready design of the Pelican ProGear S130 Sport Elite Laptop/Camera Backpack gives fast access to contents. If you need the best available protection for your camera gear, laptop and other equipment you’ll want to check out the Pelican ProGear S130 backpack. It is available now for $304.95. Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him.

I purchased the S100 Elite which, as you state, is quite similar to this model. I have to say that although the crush-proof water-resistant case is nice, it makes the backpack quite uncomfortable to wear and use. Of course, YMMV.
