Samsung GALAXY S4

One way to predict whether or not a new device is going to be a hit is to look at how many cases and other assorted accessories are announced in the hours following the launch. For example, each time a new iDevice is announced  Judie and I get dozens of emails with each company making sure we know they have something to add style and protection to the device. If such a barometer is accurate the Samsung GALAXY S4 that was announced Thursday evening is going to be a huge hit.

Waterfield, one of our favorites, let us know they will have locally-manufactured, custom-sized protection for the Samsung GALAXY S4 Case in the form of their Ultrasuede S4 Suede Jacket™. The S4 Suede Jacket will be available in classic black or in a zebra or cheetah print. The scratch-free microfiber material of the S4 Suede Jacket adds no bulk and helps to keep the phone’s screen clean. Pricing starts at $10 for the simple black version.

Also jumping into the mix with a bevy of offerings for the Samasung GALAXY S4 is Belkin. Their $49.99 Wallet Folio with Stand Case for the Samsung GALAXY S4 is made from genuine leather. It’s cover converts into a multiple-angle viewing stand and the interior is lined with a soft microfiber. It will have an MSRP of $49.99

Other companies announcing cases for the Samsung GALAXY S4 Cygnett, whose UrbanShield, Incline, Lavish Executive, FlipFiber and Cache range in price from $29.99 to $39.99 and Case-Mate and Vaja whose cases will start at $50 and go all the way to a painful $150. Rounding out the announcements are Calypso case offerings a signup page but not a lot of details and OtterBox whose Defender, Commuter and Reflex Series cases will all be available for the Samsung Galaxy S 4.

I spent a few minutes hands-on with the Samsung GALAXY S4 and I was actually quite impressed. It isn’t an earth shattering update over the S3 but it is a fine piece of hardware with a good many bells and whistles to keep even the most tech-headed leaky happy for a while. We’re planning to have one in hand when the device ships in a month and look forward to going hands with many of the cases.
