Rokform Rokshield v3 and v3 Suction Mount for iPhone 5

Some weeks ago, I had the opportunity to review the Rokform Rokshield v3 for iPhone 5 (read the review). The case itself offers nice protection, but that wasn’t what stood out for me. No, what stood out when I reviewed the case at the time was the numerous possibilities a case like this afforded any iPhone user. Why is that so? Simple, the Rokform Rokshield v3 for iPhone 5 is more a system than it is a case.

The Rokform Rokshield v3 for iPhone 5 is a hard case, but it also ships with a rubber bumper that wraps around it and offers additional protection.

And that’s just the beginning.

The case itself also has a rubber non-slip insert in the back that hides a magnet. That magnet, in turn, allows you to stick the iPhone on any metal surface and have the phone stay put. And if that’s not enough, you can buy special metal discs with adhesive on one side. Peel off the adhesive and stick the disc on a surface, and you have an instant iPhone holder anywhere, anytime.

But wait … there’s more!

The back of the case also has a notched circular area into which included multi use mount can slip and lock. You can place this on a surface and affix it with the adhesive that is on one side or, if you are looking to create permanent mounting system, you can screw the mount into place. From there it’s as simple as placing your iPhone over the disk and twisting a tiny bit to lock it securely in place.

That was not the end of it however, since the company was also kind enough to send me a v3 Suction Mount for the Rokform Rokshield v3 for iPhone 5. The V3 Suction Mount is exactly what it sounds like – a sturdy suction mount that attaches to your windshield or some other solid surface and locks in place via suction. The articulating arms are rather sturdy and are easily manipulated into a variety of positions when you loosen the thumbscrews. Tighten the thumbscrews and the suction mount holds the position you chose. And since it’s designed to be part of the RockShield v3 system it obviously works with the Rokform Rokshield v3 for iPhone 5. Here’s a look at it on video.

The company notes that the v3 Suction mount “can be attached to any smooth, flat, non-porous surface including windshields and windows”. I tested that out and found that it is one of the better suction solutions I have seen. Add the great grip to the wide range of motion offered by the mount, and you have a great solution for use in the car, at a conference table or sitting at your desk.

Features:

Polycarbonate and die-cast zinc construction

360 degree turn and rotation

210 degree tilt for ideal viewing angles

Powerful suction pad measures 3.4″ (86.4mm) in diameter

If you are looking for an iPhone case that allows you to use your iPhone in a variety of settings, if you want something that allows you to securely affixed your iPhone to many different surfaces, and if you need the flexibility to grow your accessory options over time, it’s worth a look.
