Dungeon of Elements

I continue to be amazed at the crazy-cool ideas that indie developers come up with. Years after being declared ‘dead’, PC gaming remains the most innovative source of new gaming styles. Take Dungeon of Elements – this game looks like a dungeon crawler, yet has a 3D Tetris element mixed with things like crafting and so on. Intrigued? I know I was, so I immediately checked out this new Kickstarter!

From the developer: Here are some key features:

Dungeon of Elements is an RPG dungeon crawler with combat inspired by some of our favorite classic puzzle games like Dr. Mario or Tetris. In Dungeon of Elements (DoE), core meets casual as we combine many different styles of gameplay in a fun, immersive experience. While trundling through dungeons, ruins, and 45 different environments, you will defeat over 60 enemy types, collect pets, craft items, weapons, and armor through alchemical experimentation, build your bestiary, and more.

Why I think you should back this effort:

I love seeing new ideas, or new ways of looking at existing ideas. Dungeon of Elements brings both – by asking the question ‘what if we could base a dungeon crawler around 3D Tetris’, they launched on a journey to a unique experience that is just a joy to look at. I can’t wait to get a chance to play this one!

Explanation of Gameplay

The primary combat mechanic in DoE is inspired by two games we loved: Dr. Mario and Tetris. Your main offense is throwing capsules at the enemies. Each capsule has two halves which can be one of four colors representing the Four Elements (Fire, Water, Earth, and Air). Your enemies are also color-tinted to correspond to one of the Four Elements. To defeat enemies you must connect four of the same color, and then BOOM!
