SETA Smartphone Stand

When I first set eyes on the SETA Smartphone Stand, I was initially underwhelmed.  Not knowing anything about the product before receiving the review sample, I saw the simple stand thought, “What’s the big deal?”  Then, I did my research and realized that this stand is more than just something to lean your smartphone against.  Once I peeled off the plastic protective cover and placed my phone on the pad, I was instantly impressed.  The SETA Smartphone Stand may be one of the best smartphone stands on the market.

SETA Smartphone Stand

The structure of the stand is made of 1/8″ thick aircraft grade aluminum so this stand is made to last.  However, the real selling point of this stand lies in the super-cool pads I mentioned earlier.  These pads are made of a nanosuction material that “synthetically emulates the adhesive qualities of gecko feet” to grip the phone without being sticky or tacky to the touch.  The SETA stand includes a 2nd nanosuction pad on the bottom which also sticks to any flat, non-porous material.  The beauty of this stand is that there is no special knowledge required, you just place your phone on the pad and take it off.  The grip holds so well that you may have to rotate the phone slightly, but that’s a small price to pay for a solid hold.

These nanosuction pads have been known to collect dust over time, but 1.0 Innovations, the creators of the SETA stand, have preempted this fear telling us that all you need to do is clean the dust off with clear tape or a damp towel, and you’re good to go again with no loss of suction.  This is good news for those who are afraid that the pads will lose effectiveness after a few years.

The only downside to these neat pads is the fact that they won’t work with certain textured cases; for instance with LifeProof or Otterbox cases.  However, an extra nanosuction pad is included so if you have a case you don’t want to remove, you can apply the extra nanosuction pad to the back of the case and the two nanosuction pads will work in tandem.  This is not a perfect solution, but if you really want the functionality of the SETA stand, but don’t want to remove your LifeProof case, at least you’ll have an option.

Another great feature of the SETA stand is the T-shaped cord holder that keeps your power cord in check after you unplug your device.  This is the main reason that the SETA stand will be going on my night table as soon as I’m done with this review.  Currently, my iPhone’s lightening adapter lies on the floor next to my bed throughout the day until I have to scrounge around for it in the dark while my fiance is sleeping.  Now, I’ll always know where my power cable is, because it’ll be nestled perfectly in the SETA stand.

SETA Smartphone Stand

I challenge you to find a more versatile smartphone stand on the market, today.  The beauty of the SETA smartphone stand is in its simplicity and universal capability.  You’ll be able to use this stand for the next 10 years or more, no matter what phone you get.  You can use this with Android phones, iPhones, iPods, or anything else that’s surface is flat and non-porous.  They’re also selling larger nanosuction stands for iPads and tablets.

If you’re looking for a stand for your phone, tablet, or other electronic thingamabob, I don’t know why you would overlook the SETA Smartphone Stand.

You can also check out the SETA Smartphone Stand on their website or Facebook page.

To buy the SETA Smartphone Stand at this time, you will have to either pre-order the stand from SETA’s website for $29.00 or pledge at least $25.00 on their Kickstarter campaign.  Delivery to Kickstarter pledges is estimated for September 2013, but as I’ve learned with Kickstarter, there are never any guarantees.

SETA Smartphone Stand

MSRP: $29.00 pre-order on SETA’s website or $25.00 pledge on Kickstarter

What I Like:  Simple, universal, minimalist design; nanosuction pads work incredibly well; pad on the bottom of the stand holds the stand in place very well; Cord control build in to the stand

What Needs Improvement:  Nanosuction pads may not work with your phone’s case, however an extra nanosuction pad is included with the Kickstarter rewards so that you can stick it to the back of your case and then you’ll be able to use the stand.
