Sony has just announced the A3000, an entirely new Sony E-Mount camera. This is the camera for the 60% of people stepping up from their smartphone or point-and-shoot who are looking for a DSLR-style camera and its easy-to-hold grip. It is packed with features and will ship at a surprisingly low MSRP of $399. Here’s a first look.
Like the NEX line, the Sony A3000 is a Sony E-mount Interchangeable Lens Digital SLR camera. It has Sony’s Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor and BIONZTM image processor. The 20.1 MP APS-C sized image sensor is the same size sensor found in most traditional DSLRs, and it allows the camera to capture highly detailed still images and Full HD videos. And while it is ideally positioned for someone who is looking to step up from a smartphone or point-and-shoot (but isn’t interested in the Sony NEX line), since the A3000 uses the same E-Mount system of interchangeable lenses, it can also make a great second camera for anyone who shoots with an NEX camera. As Mike Kahn, director of the interchangeable lens camera business group at Sony notes,
The new a3000 represents the ultimate combination of performance and value in an interchangeable lens camera. With a familiar, comfortable shooting design, impressive imaging capabilities and an outstanding price, it’s the ideal choice for customers looking to experience the vast benefits of large sensor, interchangeable lens imaging for the very first time.
As you might expect the camera offers Lens Stabilization, Optical SteadyShot, an Optical Zoom, Single-shot AF, Continuous AF, Auto Focus, Direct Manual Focus and Manual Focus options. Panorama, and Scene Modes such as Portrait, Landscape, Macro, Sports Action, Sunset, Night Portrait, Night View, Hand- held Twilight and Anti Motion Blur and Picture Effects such as Posterization, Pop Color, Retro Photo, Partial Color, Toy Camera are just the beginning of what this entry-level camera has to offer. The camera includes both an LCD screen and an electronic Tru-Finder viewfinder, has a built-in flash and sports both WiFi and NFC connectivity.
The α3000 interchangeable lens camera works with the growing number of E-mount lenses (16 at this point) and will be available in early September for about $400 and will ship paired with a black 18-55mm zoom kit lens.
