I absolutely raved about the V-MODA M-100 over-the-ear headphones we reviewed last month. They have become my go-to headphones when I don’t need noise cancellation. Now I’ve had the chance to use the V-MODA Remix Remote in-ear headphones. These $79 headphones are comfortable and sound great; the remote and microphone make them great all-around headphones. Check them out.

V-MODA did a great job bringing their audio prowess to in-ear headphones. The V-MODA Remix Remote offer huge sound in a small package. As the product page explains,

Don’t just hear the music, feel it. With the Remix Remote, you get unparalleled sound clarity and vibrant bass in every song. Plus, you get control at your fingertips with the integrated 3-Button remote and high fidelity microphone. Combining all-metal craftsmanship with fashion-forward design, the Remix Remote is lightweight and durable, perfect for the mobile lifestyle.

Not all in-ear headphones are built the same. I love the Zagg headphones I reviewed a few months ago but one of the cords is already starting to fray at one of the reinforced points on the cable. That shouldn’t be an issue with the Remix Remotes thanks to a custom designed 2.2mm Kevlar reinforced cable that is built 3x-10x stronger than normal cables. Add in all metal construction on the headphones and y-connector and a 45 degree, 24k gold-plated plug and you have a pair of sub-$80 headphones that should put up with a good amount of use and abuse. And if the earbuds do happen to wear out no worries, they come with a 2-Year V-MODA Premier Warranty and the company’s Immortal Life program, that gives you 50% off a replacement pair if the need arises.

V-MODA didn’t skimp on the inclusion of what they refer to as “silicon ear fittings”. No, they include eight pair of them — four in black and four in clear. This is the result of the company understanding that they right fit and seal is important to the quality of the music when using in-ear headphones. As they say,

V-MODA’s remastered BLISS 2.0 (Bass Level Isolating Soft Silicone) noise-isolating technology further reduces outside noise and enables deep punchy bass for the ultimate audio experience.

I will say that these are among the most comfortable in-ear headphones I have used.

V-MODA Remix Remote

I think V-MODA is making a big mistake with the Remix Remote. They mention their “Patent Pending detachable sport ear hooks with Active Flex technology”, but they don’t spend much time talking about them. Sure they say,

Our newly developed medical-grade, soft silicone ear tips give you a comfortable and secure fit while the detachable sport earhooks insure you don’t miss a beat when you’re on the go, running or at the gym.

But that doesn’t say nearly enough about them. These sport ear hooks are amazing. They have three spots into which the earbud cables are placed. The hook then sits behind and around the ear, and the earbud is free to be placed into the ear. It is amazingly comfortable and has the added benefit of keeping the earbuds in place no matter what you are doing.

The 3-Button remote and high fidelity, omnidirectional microphone also deserve mention. It lets you control music playback, raise or lower volume, access Siri and, of course, lets you talk on the phone. The control is compatible with iPhone 5, iPhone 4/4s, iPhone 3GS, iPod shuffle (3rd gen), iPod touch (2nd gen), iPod nano (4rd gen), 120GB iPod classic, MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac and Mac Pro (2009 and newer models).

The earbuds themselves are packed with technology. They have a frequency response or 5 Hz – 24 kHz. And since V-MODA gives this technology specialized V-NAMES I’ll use V-MODA’s own words to describe them.

9mm V-MASQUE high definition dynamic driver gives you absolute clarity alongside the perfect balance of vibrant bass. The V-PORT air flow system delivers a high-definition sound stage, invoking the sense of a live music or club experience.

The V-MODA Reflex Remote in-ear headphones weigh just 17g and have a 13.5” cable. Most importantly, these comfortable earbuds sound fantastic. Seriously, it is quite apparent that these in-ear headphones come from the same company that make the Crossfade M-100 headphones. The sound is clean, the bass is powerful and the over-all experience of listening to music with them is, quite simply, a pleasure. If you love your music and use one of Apple’s devices as your music source you will want to check them out. Get them here.
