Some months ago, we received a few high-end Truffol cases for the iPhone 5/5S. Truffol uses metal and Italian leather to create gorgeous, unique cases that look as good as they protect. Check out our video review and then read on to learn how you can win one of the review samples.
As a company, Truffol has a background in the manufacturing of luxury timepieces. As they explains, “Through countless years of collaborations with luxury brands, we have mastered the art in creating fine luxury. With mobile devices rapidly becoming a new personal necessity, we seize this opportunity to extend our unique expertise into the field. We are committed to redefining luxury for the mobile accessory sector, one creation at a time.”
They launched their line with a series of cases priced starting at $60. They offers both the Minimalist line, which has all-metal construction, and they offer a Classic case that combines metal and leather. What do we think of the cases? Check out this video of us taking a close look. (And make sure to watch the outtakes at the very end.)
As you can see from the video these are gorgeous cases. Yes, they are not without some issues, but we really love the elegance of their design. We really appreciate the fact that Truffol is open and direct with regard to the impact of metal cases on signal reception. As they explain on their website:
Inevitably, all metal cases suffer from a certain degree of signal degradation. To mitigate the issue, the Signature case is built with an inner plastic (polycarbonate) layer which provides shock absorption and completely insulates your iPhone 5 from the aluminum frame. In addition, the Signature’s aluminum frame is machine-milled to a mere 1.0mm, further minimizing any potential interference.
Our internal lab tests show signal loss of 10% to 15%. In real life terms, if you reside or work in areas with optimal reception (4 to 5 bars), you are unlikely to experience any issues. However, if you currently have weak reception in your area (1 to 2 bars), we do not recommend purchasing a metal phone case.
The Minimalist has an MSRP of $60 while the Classic has an MSRP of $75. Check them both out here on the company site.
