Sony’s new flagship, the Xperia Z2, promises to be even better than its predecessor. It’s waterproof in freshwater for up to 5 feet and 30 minutes, has 4K video capability, and a gorgeous 5.2″ screen. I’ve had some hands-on time with one, and I love the glass body and build quality. You can see a full list of specifications here, but some of the high points include the image stabilized 20.7 megapixel rear camera, the 3000 mAh battery with up to 19 hours talk time, Google Android 4.4 (Kit Kat), a 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Quad-core processor, and did I mention that it was waterproof and dustproof? Slick!

The more new products that Samsung releases, the more I think that they just don’t “get it” when it comes to making premium devices. I have a Sony Xperia Z Ultra (I have BOTH the Sony version and the Google Play version) and they have fantastic build quality. The HTC One is still a benchmark when it comes to build quality and I am eagerly awaiting the new HTC One. Meanwhile, Samsung keeps on making devices with faux leather plastic, faux metal bits and so on.
I am eagerly anticipating the Z2 as well as the new HTC One. Who knows, I may get them both just to try them out! Since I can backup and restore my SMS/MMS messages to my computer, I don’t have to worry about the dreaded “I lost all my old text messages!” problem that I usually get when changing phones.
