1-Bass StandaloneThe Nyne Bass Bluetooth Speaker is a wireless, 20-Watt portable that’s designed for outdoor use.  It’s powered by Bluetooth 4.0, has NFC pairing capabilities, and it has a built-in 10-hour rechargeable battery which can serve as a power bank for smaller devices; the Nyne Bass can also be used as a speakerphone.  You can purchase yours for $149.95.

The Nyne Bass is a 2.1 speaker system with two active drivers and an active subwoofer.  There’s a built-in 4400 mAh rechargeable battery that allows 10 hours of playtime.  The fact that the Bass doubles as a power bank is a great feature, especially for something that’s meant to be taken with you outdoors, where you don’t have an outlet with which to recharge your devices.  The Bass also has a 3.5mm auxiliary-in jack, so you can plug your non-Bluetooth devices into the speaker as well.  The Bass’s inclusion of Near Field Communication (NFC) allows you to pair your device quickly and easily by placing your phone nearby the speaker.  Another neat thing about the Bass is that it comes with an AC adapter that comes with 4 worldwide plug adapters, so it can be used all over the world.

Nyne’s Bass is 13.5” long x 6.25” tall x 7” deep and is finished in a “rubberized” textured finish.  The speaker itself weighs 6.65 lbs.  The rubberized finish is a bit less “rubbery” in comparison to other rubberized finishes I’ve experienced in the past.  The front of the speaker is all grill, which is definitely attractive.  The grill curves up from the front of the speaker to also cover part of the top.  There is also a blue LED light underneath the grill at the top to let you know when the speaker is connected to your device via Bluetooth.

The top of the speaker also contains the control buttons for the Bass speaker.  The buttons are power, volume down, volume up, speakerphone, play/pause, skip back, and skip forward.  The buttons themselves are pretty large, at about a 1.5 inches wide, each and are also coated in the rubberized texture.  The large buttons allow you to control the Bass easily, even while wearing gloves.  The back of the speaker is home to the power cord jack, Auxiliary-In jack, USB-Out jack, and the master power switch.

There is also a handy carrying handle on the back of the speaker to help you carry it from your car to the campsite, picnic, tailgate party, or wherever you’d like.  The sides of the Nyne Bass are covered in an alternate color texturized finish with the Nyne logo.  Since my speaker is the white version, the sides are grey.  The bottom of the speaker is pretty plan, but has four rubber feet to keep the speaker firmly in place.

The sound quality of the Nyne Bass is definitely impressive while the volume is in the low to medium range.  When you get in to the high volumes, there is a bit of distortion that comes through.  However, if you’re outdoors and at a distance from the speaker, the distortion is not heard as much.  I’ve enjoyed my time with the Nyne Bass and can definitely see it as a good speaker to use at parties, picnics, or tailgating.

6-Nyne Bass Gear Diary-005

You can purchase the Nyne Bass from Fry’s Electronics for $149.95.  The Bass is available in white as well as black.

MSRP:  $149.95

What I Like:  Very nice design; Large buttons are easy to control; Decent sound at a distance and outdoors; Can be used as a USB power bank; Helpful carrying handle.

What Needs Improvement:  No remote; Some sound distortion at high volumes; Not as “rubberized” as you might expect.
