T-Mobile is running a promotion through June 15. Existing customers who add a tablet to their plan will receive up to 1 GB of free data per month through December 31, 2014. Normal monthly pricing for the “add a tablet” is $20, and they are taking $10 off that for an unspecified period after the 2014 promo ends.
Not a terribly bad deal provided you’re a T-Mobile customer already – which in that case you are probably well aware of their coverage (or sometimes lack of). Also remember that T-Mobile already allows up to 200 MB free LTE data per month without any contract – so if you’re a light data user, this offer may be overkill.
Of course this also ignores that most carrier share plans include the ability to tether, and T-Mobile provides up to 5GB of high-speed data for such plans (slowed to 2G after that limit). This reduced tablet rate is more competitive with AT&T who charges $10 per tablet and allows for sharing from a pool of prepaid data.
It’s increasingly harder to justify a tablet with built-in cellular data now that all modern share plans seem to include the ability to use a smartphone to offer up tethered WiFi.
Free 4G LTE data every month through 2014.
Who says you can only surf inside a 50-foot “Wi-Fi zone” in some coffee shop? Your tablet should work where you are, like in the car or at a park. Weren’t tablets meant to set us free? We think so.
New and existing T-Mobile customers, when you add a tablet to your voice plan, you’ll get:
Up to 1GB FREE 4G LTE data per month through 2014
PLUS up to 200 MB FREE monthly 4G LTE data for as long as you own your tablet
That’s over 1GB of FREE 4G LTE data each month until 2015!
How does it work? We’ve discounted our most popular mobile internet plans by $10 for the rest of the year. That means for voice customers, our 1GB plan available for only $10 per month is now free through the end of the year.
