Samsung Goes Greener and Offers More Accessibility with New TVs

At Samsung’s (virtual) press conference presentation yesterday, the company announced new products and initiatives that reflect their commitment to innovation. Televisions that are more immersive than ever were on display, as were innovations that can make entertainment more accessible to more people. Here’s a look at some of what they shared.

Dell Brings Security, Recycling, Curved Monitors, and More to CES 2021

There are a few things you can count on every January: everyone will suddenly get the urge to exercise, you can never go wrong complaining that it’s either too cold or not cold enough, and an army of laptop and computer upgrades will be announced at CES. Dell is leading the charge with new Latitudes, Precision Workplaces, Optiflex towers, and monitors galore!

Takeaways from Apple’s Annual September Event

2020 has taken away a lot, but perhaps it has given us even more. And with brands like Apple, who tend to do the absolute most when it comes to their keynotes, yesterday was a welcome surprise. As the resident Apple Fanboy for GearDiary, it’s only right that I give my take on things.

Qualcomm’s New 5G Computer Platform Will Bring Work from Home to a New Level

It feels like we’ve been hearing about 5G forever, but it’s for-real happening, and we’re going to be getting all sorts of awesome devices zipping YouTube to us faster than ever. And, sure, we also need connectivity for remote work. But also TikTok. Anyway, Qualcomm is already on their 2nd generation of 5G PC chips, being rolled out this year with Acer!

Acer Announces New Thin and Light Swift Laptops

The best part about laptops is the portability — you can work from your desk, your couch, and (pre-COVID) the local coffeehouse. Of course, the most crucial part of portability is that your laptop is light and not dependent on an outlet. Acer has got both covered with new Swift laptops running the Intel Evo platform.

JBL Has More Ways for You to Enjoy Your Music Wherever You Might Be

This year, IFA will consist of a much smaller live convention coupled with a virtual show. Even though the pandemic travel restrictions have made it just about impossible for press from the states to attend, there will still be lots of news to share. One of the IFA press conferences I never miss is Harman’s, and even though things will be very different this year, there are still plenty of exciting new JBL offerings to check out.

Acer Predator Gaming Desktops Are Ready to Hunt Down the Competition

Acer makes a huge slate of PCs, and they make sure to throw some love towards gamers with their Predator line of accessories, computers, and monitors. They’re updating their Predator Orion line of desktops to support NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs, plus they’ve got a monitor that will keep up every frame of the way! Predator Orion 9000: Acer says this is for hardcore gamers, with the ability to handle any AAA titles, plus it comes with 3 Predator Frostblade fans to keep it from getting too toasty. Also, you can admire the whole setup with a tempered glass…

Xiaomi Impresses with Their Latest Launch

Xiaomi may not be the first brand that people in the US think of for smartphones, but they are ranked at #4 worldwide behind Samsung, Huawei, and Apple. Their smartphones have garnered praise from stateside reviewers for having excellent cameras, best-in-class features, and, most importantly, affordability. But Xiaomi makes more than just smartphones; they also sell home, health, and lifestyle products that include routers, fitness bands, LED desk lamps, air purifiers, and electric scooters, to name just a few.

Gear Diary’s Best of Toy Fair NYC 2020 Awards

I spent some quality time at the 2020 New York Toy Fair; while it may be a bit smaller than CES, it is no less overwhelming. There was so much to see that it was almost impossible to settle on this year’s ‘Best of’, but we persevered and made our selections. Here’s a look at our picks.

LG V60 ThinQ 5G Evolves for Better Productivity and Entertainment

Folding displays may be the future, but that doesn’t mean the tech is quite ready for everyone’s use or that everyone will even want it or will want to pay for it. The LG V60 ThinQ 5G gives you a gorgeous metal and glass slab with excellent specs that can be turned into a dual-screen device when needed.

Huawei Mate Xs Hardware Is a Solution, but There’s Still a Problem

There’s a lot of buzz about folding displays right now; in the US, we have the OG Samsung Fold along with the new Samsung Z Flip and Motorola Razer flip-style phones from which to choose. Huawei dazzled us last year with the China-only Mate X. Today, Huawei has introduced its next-gen Mate Xs with almost worldwide availability.
