It never fails that when I pack my gear, there are always small items which will sift to the bottom of my bag’s cavernous pockets. This doesn’t even take into account all of the times when I have needed a particular something, and no matter how neatly I thought I had it packed, I couldn’t find it when it was time. Well, no more.

Tom Bihn makes a variety of Organizer Pouches, and I think that it would be safe to assume that there is something for everyone. Let’s take a look…

Cordura Organizer Pouches

Reviewed: Tom Bihn Organizer Pouches

These are the most basic of the pouches offered because they aren’t padded, aren’t see-through, and don’t have a crazy texture. These Cordura bags are perfect for holding loose items like change, memory cards, and depending upon the size – even cables. They all have a plastic clip which can be used to attach to the D-rings present inside many of the Tom Bihn (and other brand) bags.

Small measures: 7″ x 5″ (180 x 125 mm)
Medium measures: 10.3″ x 7″ (260 x 180 mm)
Large measures: 14.5″ x 11.2″ (370 x 285mm)

Cork Organizer Pouches

These are what I consider to be the most original of all the bags. Tom Bihn uses a “real cork fabric” that feels and looks like…you guessed it: cork! These are the perfect accessory when you want something that people will want to touch or ask questions about. These cork pouches are so pretty that it seems a shame to hide them inside a gear bag.

Real cork fabric
Mini: 5.7″ x 3.9″ (145 x 100 mm)
Small: 7″ x 5″ (180 x 125 mm)
Medium: 10.3″ x 7″ (260 x 180 mm)

Clear Organizer Pouches

These clear pouches are so clever, and the reasons why should go without saying…but I will name some of them, anyway. Being able to see exactly what’s inside any given pouch takes away the guesswork when trying to remember where you stowed your change, memory cards, a particular adapter, or whatever. The pen / pencil pouch is perfect for those who like to bring along their art supplies, and the brilliant Cordura colors available help to further personalize and categorize the contents.

Padded Organizer Pouches

The padded pouches are the ones you’ll want to use if you have been eying the others, thinking that one of them might be perfect for carrying your mobile phone or PDA. Both the front and back sides are padded with approximately 1/8″ foam; this should be more than sufficient to guard against shocks and bumps when a device is inside a larger gearbag.

Specifications:
Available in Black/Silver Trim
Mini measures: 5.7″ x 3.9″ (145 x 100 mm)
Small measures: 7″ x 5″ (180 x 125 mm)

SuperDrive measures: 5.47″ x 5.47″ x 0.67″ (139 x 139 x 17 mm)
500 Denier Cordura® outside with super-soft brushed nylon interior
1/8″ (4mm) thick foam padding
#5 YKK coil zipper with plastic pull that won’t scratch electronics
Available in Mini for $7, Small for $9, Medium for $11, SuperDrive for $15
Made in the TOM BIHN Factory in Seattle, Washington, U.S.A.

Tom Bihn Organizer Pouches are available directly from the manufacturer.

What I Like: Colorful bags which keep your gear protected, separated and secure; only the highest quality fabric and zippers are used; the clip allows you to attach the bags to the D-rings present inside Tom Bihn and other brand laptop and gear bags; all bags are made at the Tom Bihn Seattle, Washington factory, by people making a living wage

I have two clear pouches and two padded pouches. I used the small padded to protect my WD Passport hard drive in my day bag (medium Cafe Bag) on my recent trip around the UK and Ireland, and the mini padded for my iPod Video which I have relegated to a backup hard drive (I kept this in my other carry-on, which stayed in the hotel room). I keep a Gomadic cable and a set of tips in the mini clear pouch and haven’t really decided yet what to use the small clear pouch for.
