Like a lot of people, I commute. My trip lasts about an hour each way on the bus.  There are a tons of distractions from people talking and the constant hum of the moving bus.  I tried the Monster Turbine In-Ear Speakers hoping to create some audio nirvana on my daily commute.

“In-Ear speakers”, as Monster calls it, are only effective if they are able to block out the outside sound.

This sound block is achieved via one of  5 different size eartips used to seal up the ear canal from ambient sound and allow only the music to enter.  Suddenly, a very noisy environment becomes a personal listening space free from the distractions around you.

The eartips are also effective in providing a very comfortable earphone experience by providing the consumer a wide range of sizes to fit the ear canal.  I personally like the medium-sized rounded eartip for the comfort that it provides.  I also use the headphones when I run on the treadmill and I like the snug fit that they provide.

Sound quality was above average for a set of earphones at $149.  Monster has placed a lot of thought into engineering  earphones with their “Turbine Driver” to accurately produce the lows and highs in their music.  I personally prefer jazz music and these earphones have made my commute one of the smoothest rides on the bus.  The “in-ear”  design not only looks good, it also contains the sound to your ears.  There is nothing more annoying than being on the bus and having another passenger’s music disturb your commute.

Monster is known as one the premiere audio cable companies.  Quality continues in their Turbine In-Ear Speakers which can be seen in the black chrome body along with the well constructed cable which is designed to provide a tangle-free experience.  Monster also provides a handsome box to store the earphones when you are not using them as well as a thoughtful carrying case when your are out and about.

Monster Turbine In-Ear Speakers are available from various retailers.

MSRP: $149.00

What I liked: Well-built earphones producing excellent sound quality at an affordable price point.

What needs improvement: Monster only provides rubber inserts for their eartips.  I prefer the black foam type inserts that Shure makes for both sound isolation and fit.
