Last week I reviewed Timbuk2’s new H.A.L. backpack. I like it a lot. I was impressed with the quality of the workmanship, the design itself, and the incredible utility of the backpack for anyone needing to carry a laptop and assorted other items. My one criticism of the backpack was that the area designed to hold the notebook, while convenient, or for no real fall protection. That’s where today’s review item comes in more than a bit handy.

The ColcaSac is a simple, rugged burlap sleeve that offers excellent protection for your MacBook Pro from the daily bumps and grinds of life. Let’s take a look.

Description:

This stylish and functional sleeve is made from burlap and 100% polyester sherpa fleece. Its rugged surface is engineered to handle the rough world while its inside provides soft, scratch-free protection for your Apple’s surface. It also fits perfectly snugly around your MacBook. This unique sleeve is discrete and acts as a theft deterrent (no one associates burlap with a notebook). But maybe more important is that it is the coolest looking sleeve out there.

My Take:

The ColcaSac is truly the most rugged/rough Mac sleeves I have seen. The burlap is heavy-duty and will clearly endure a great deal of use… and abuse.

Inside the CulcoSac is an entirely different animal.

The sherpa fleece lining is soft and thick. Soft and thick enough, in fact, to provide a great deal of protection for your MacBook Pro’s beautiful, but easily scratched, aluminum finish.

Once inside the MacBook is held securely by an enclosure flap. A strip of velcro ensure s that the MacBook stays in place while, at the same time, is easily accessed.

Finally, an open pocket is large enough to hold the power adapter.

ColcaSac claims that, the sleeve “acts as a theft deterrent (no one associates a computer with natural fibers). I’m not sure about this claim but I am impressed with the fit, finish and materials used in the sac.

Conclusion-
The ColcaSac is one of the more original notebook sleeves I have tried. It offers nice, simple protection. With its natural fibers and rough exterior it definitely stands out from the pack. This certainly isn’t the kind of sleeve a polished professional would want to carry. But in every other situation it is a great choice for simple, natural MacBook protection!

The ColcoSac is available for an assortment of current and older MacBook designs. Each has an MSRP of $30 and is available from the company.

What I Like-
Excellent materials and finish
Simple, effective design
Good price-point

What Needs Improvement-
Rough appearance will appeal to some but not to others
