I had to share this example of fantastic customer service. A friend of mine is an avid runner, and for her birthday I bought her a RoadID gift certificate, to be delivered electronically to Gmail account.

Unfortunately, Gmail in its enthusiasm to reduce spam, flagged the gift card as such and she accidentally deleted it. I emailed the company this morning explaining the situation, and within a few hours my friend had her e-gift certificate and I had an email from the company letting me know it was re-sent!

There were a few things that really struck me about the experience. One, it was a good reminder to always check your spam box, as sometimes legitimate emails can sneak in by accident. Two, it highlighted the importance of great customer service, even from a small company. RoadID puts the email address of the owners under their “contact us” page, and they follow-up on the promise of a prompt response.

So now that I’ve spent some time telling you how great RoadID is, what do they do? They explain it best in their FAQ:

What is Road ID?
Road ID is a durable, rugged, athletic, fashionable line of identification gear. Currently, we offer 5 different forms of ID: the FIXX ID, the Shoe ID, the Ankle ID the Wrist ID and the Shoe Pouch ID. We provide various forms of ID to allow a person to decide where they want to wear their vital Identification. We encourage active people who participate in outdoor activities to wear ID and not take the chance of being unidentified in the event of an accident. It is far better to wear ID and never need it than to need ID and not have it. To see our various products, please check out our products page.

So the next time your favorite athlete has a special occasion coming up, instead of getting them a water bottle or a pair of socks, get them a gift that will keep them safe, and support a small company that understands customer service!

I keep some form of ROAD ID on me whenever I’m training. The nice thing about the product is that it can be worn in a variety of ways (on your shoe, wrist, neck etc.)

I hope I never have to use my ROAD ID but I do feel better knowing it’s there if something bad happens while I”m training on the roads.

  2. I never go on a long bike ride without a $20 tucked in my sock and my Road ID around my ankle. Leaves more room for food in my cycling jersey pockets.

I don’t go anywhere without mine. I’ve got the Fixx tags right now, but I’m planning on the new style bracelet they just released not too long ago.

What I’m torn about is the RoadID Interactive. I like the idea of it. I sent an email a while back (twice actually) and never got a response. In a nutshell, I was looking for more information on with regards to how the system is run and the redundancy and all that.

Either way, already planning on getting one for my wife for Christmas. She’s not a runner like I am (when I’m not fighting with knee issues), but she’s got serious enough medical issues that I’m concerned when she’s working out at the gym or something.

  4. This is a great company. Started out family owned – may still be. I have 3 types of their IDs– dogtag, wrist strap, ankle strap, and a red and a blue single LED safety lights. Their lights give surprisingly good distance warning with a single LED.
