The 20 Richest Comic Book Characters of All Time

Most everyone immediately thinks of Bruce Wayne / Batman when they think of wealthy comic book heroes, but a new list at Ranker.com tells a different tale, looking at the Top 20 wealthiest comic book characters. It is amazing how some of these characters manage to run multinational corporations, have illustrious love lives, and still keep cities safe from crime! Heck, most of us have a hard enough time balancing work and family while finding a few spare minutes for fun … but I guess that is why THEY are superheroes and WE are not!

Looking at the list we see the Caped Crusader only comes in at #4 on the top 20 list, behind Ozymandias, Namor the Sub-Mariner (?), and …

Black Panther

Here is some background information about the Stan Lee hero from the listing:

Being the first black superhero in mainstream American comic books, Black Panther tops this list as the most realistically rich superhero (or supervillain) in either DC or Marvel.

Why is this? Well, for one, he runs the entire country of Wakanada (a fictional African country in the Marvel universe), which just happens to be the world’s only deposit of the most precious metal: Vibranium.

You know that indestructible metal that Wolverine’s bones are incased in? Vibranium is the stronger metal and T’Challa (the Black Panther’s real identity) owns all of it, and often has to protect it.

So, from the perspective of natural resources, supply vs. demand, and how much he has at his disposal if he just sells a tiny bit of what he has an endless amount of — T’Challa, The Black Panther, is arguably the richest superhero in comics.

For me it was just interesting to walk through the list … and see how many characters I DIDN’T know. I admit to never being a huge comic book fan – I think I read as many Archie’s comics are anything else back in the 70’s, and not even too many of those. Yet I have a special place for Batman, both the Adam West version I loved as a kid, and the Michael Keaton 1989 version.

What about you? Anyone missing on the list? Who was your favorite comic book character?
