Many puzzle games involve items or shapes falling from the top of the screen that must be eliminated in some way.  Basically they are a take on Tetris which I loved to play back in my early high school days.  Every now and then one of these games is actually unique and fun.  I came across Glass Tower 2 on a random search of the app store and it turned out to be a great game.

The game is free, but very limited with only 10 levels that may not be repeated.  Extra level packs are available for $.99 and will add 75 more levels plus user-created levels.  This still keeps the game in qualification for the Blue Plate Special.

The game play is simple to learn, but will provide plenty of challenge and enjoyment.

The tower is constructed of blocks which are different in size, shape and color.
Your aim is to break all blue blocks and to save as many red blocks as possible.  Blue blocks add a score. Its amount depends on the size of the block. Red blocks subtract your score the same way.  Also every broken red block subtract one “life”. You have 10 lives at the beginning.  Black blocks are indestructible and unmovable.

Tapping the glass blocks causes them to shatter and explode sending any blocks above them falling downward.  I found the physics to be accurate and the animations and sounds to really simulate a glass block exploding.  The sides of the bottom white bar are where the blocks can fall and be lost.  Do not forget that blocks lost take away points and a life.

Bonus items and power-ups will be available as the levels move on.  They come from the bottom of the screen and fly up the side.  Tap the item to use or collect.  I am a fan of power-ups and Glass Tower 2 provides a wide variety of items to use.

Graphics for the game are simple yet the developers do a great job making them polished and elegant.  The bricks do look like glass with reflections and opacity.  The backgrounds are various patterns that seem to be relaxing and add to the ambiance of the game.  The sounds are crisp and spot on and do add to the enjoyment of the game.

A word of warning.  The free version of this game will only last you a few minutes of game play then it becomes locked.  The good thing is that playing the first 10 levels will help you decide if the game is worth spending money on.  In-app purchases are cheap at $.99 for a level pack and includes 75 levels and the ability to build your own levels.  Check out Glass Tower 2 here in the app store for FREE with add ons for $.99.

What I like: Unique game play with polished graphics and sounds.

What could be improved: More levels should be available in the free version as well as being able to play through them more than once.
