Griffin Party Dock Outed By FCC… Confuses Some, So Here’s the Deal With It

Apparently the FCC filing for Griffin’s new PartyDock got out before they were ready to totally share. Unsurprisingly, some of the information circulating about it based on that filing isn’t totally accurate. So thanks to Griffin, here’s the deal with the new dock.

Games: You can play games designed specifically for PartyDock on it. Apparently up to four can play a mix of party and casual/family games from their iPad or iPhone right on their TV. PartyDock games will be available through iTunes and only games designed or adapted to the platform will work. (This makes sense since special functionality will have to be baked into the apps to make them work with the dock.)

Video: You can use the dock to watch movies and videos and it works for YouTube viewing also. The PartyDock will support composite and component video.

Slide Shows: The PartyDock will be a great way to view photos and slide shows or listening to music.

Charging: It will charge your iDevice while you use it since it is, after all, a dock.

As Griffin explains,

…since we designed PartyDock for social gatherings, we made it easy to set up. It takes no time to start playing. PartyDock comes ready to play with three free mini-games and one full-version game, four controllers, cables and power supply.

    This is the epitome of why the iPad is a success. A simple auxiliary device that exponentially increases the number of people that can have fun on one iPad (obviously better than just an audio-splitter). The device helps to to unleash what is possible. I am far from an iPod/Apple fan, but their stuff “just works” for most people, and that means it is a job well done.
