Looks like Amazon isn’t taking the iPad/Kindle rivalry lightly. In fact, they are actively playing it up in their latest commercial!

Let’s look at where Amazon really came out swinging:

•Showcasing how nice the Kindle is in daylight versus the iPad.

•Having the kindle user be a hot girl, while the iPad user was a fairly average guy.

•Implying the Kindle user was smarter and better with money-she knew her device worked well in the sun and was cheaper, while the iPad guy seemed clueless.

This is a far cry from those earlier surreal fantasy style Kindle ads, and I am curious to see if this is a one-off or a lead-up to a big Christmas marketing push! I do think ads like this effectively drive home Amazon’s selling points. eInk is better in sunlight, and the Kindle is far cheaper. Whether Kindle users are better looking is probably a matter of opinion though!

  1. I saw that earlier today and thought it felt a month too late … it will be in the 40’s here tonight, kids are in school … pool time is OVER.

Of course, they could extend it to a great fall foliage day, then a ski trip, and it would continue a great trend 🙂

I think it works because whether or not they are really 100% competitors, there IS competition and Amazon wants folks like me who have struggled with sunlight in a car ride while my wife and her nook have no issue, to remember that the Kindle is out, is great, and is cheap.

  2. I think that`s great and I like the previous poster`s suggestion.
It`s surprising that this is needed but there are still people who don`t get the whole idea of dedicated Readers and they keep asking for them to be backlit.
None of my books are backlit. That`s the whole point people.
If you want backlit don`t buy a dedicated eReader.
You can`t even compare the Kindle and iPad in my opinion.
