A few weeks ago Thomas and I wrote about our ongoing debate regarding which MacBook Air to order. I started with a base 11″ MBA, moved to ordering a loaded 11″ version and then, after some back and forth with Thomas, ended up getting the 13″ MBA. He did too. It is an awesome machine and I thought I was done with my search.

Then Judie had to get into the mix. She got an 11″ MBA and called it “my second best tech purchase ever… after the iPad.” Coming from Judie that is high praise and I realized that the 11″ just might deserve a second look. So right before we left on vacation I grabbed a loaded 11″ MBA. It has 4GB of RAM and a 128gb ssd… And I love the thing. Seriously, I absolutely love using the thing. I had tried one with just 2gb of RAM and found it slightly laggy but with the extra RAM the computer flies. It is so small, so light and so sat and, perhaps best of all, within seconds of using it you forget just how small it is. That is something that never happened when I was using a netbook. So the 11″ stays and the 13″ probably goes.

But that isn’t the biggest surprise.

No, the biggest surprise is that Elana tried it when we were away and she loved using it too. She has never liked small notebooks but has had the same experience I have… Once you a start using the MBA you forget just how small it is. I asked if she wanted one and she immediately said yes.

The 11″ will be perfect for her since she likes a minimum of clutter. In addition, she has started her own health-coaching business and having a notebook she can bring with her to clients is a bonus. To do that however she needs something to carry it in.

Fortunately Tom Bihn has just the thing.

The company has just introduced is new Ristretto Vertical Messenger Bag for 11″ Apple MacBook Air and it looks great. A bit back I reviewed the version of this line that is designed for the iPad and loved it. I grab it quite often on days when I want to travel with a small and light but highly organized and protective bag and I expect the MBA version to be just a nice.
as the company explains

The Ristretto for 11″ MacBook Air is a vertical messenger bag with a interior padded compartment made of .25″ (6mm) open-cell foam laminated with durable 4 Ply Taslan® on the outside and an interior of super-soft brushed nylon that protects the Air from all sides. It features multiple organizational pockets for cables, power supply, and other accessories, as well as a top grab handle, open-top back pocket, and removable waist strap. Included is the Standard Shoulder Strap with the Absolute Shoulder Strap as an optional upgrade.

The bag is made in America and comes with a lifetime guarantee. At $110 the bag is not inexpensive but, having used the review unit of the Ristretto for iPad for many months now, I can tell you that the money buys you an amazingly well built system for staying organized and protecting your Apple investment.

We have one on the way for Elana to use and review. You can pre-order yours on the Tom Bihn Website.  More information follows…
