Today at CES Verizon had their day in the sun! During that announcement they officially announced what looks like a great handset in the new Droid Bionic, plus the new Xoom Tablet.  Both are due to hit Verizon early this year.

The Droid Bionic boasts from the press release:

Packing a dual core processor with each core running at 1GHz, delivering up to two GHz of processing power, and 512 MB RAM, the sleekly designed DROID BIONIC smartphone with 4G LTE delivers a mobile Internet experience that’s up to 10 times faster than 3G. This means consumers can stream their favorite music and the latest TV shows with unparalleled quality experience. DROID BIONIC also races through loading of complex web pages and media that take advantage of Adobe® Flash® Player and HTML5, rendering graphics faster than previous generation single-core devices.

Dual core, 512 MB of RAM and 4G LTE means this is going to be one of the top Android handsets once it is released!  It will launch with Android 2.2 and get an update to 2.3

The Xoom is the famed tablet that was spied running Android 3.0 (codenamed Honeycomb).  From the Xoom press release:

Motorola XOOM™ ? the first device on Google’s new Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system designed from the ground up for tablets. The Honeycomb user experience improves on Android favorites such as widgets, multi-tasking, browsing, notifications and customization and features the latest Google Mobile innovations. Boasting a dual core processor with each core running at 1 GHz, delivering up to two GHz of processing power, and 10.1-inch widescreen HD display, Motorola XOOM gives Verizon Wireless customers a new type of mobile computing experience on a stylishly thin device that is 4G LTE upgradeable.

4G?  10.1 inch screen?  Honeycomb?  This is an iPad competitor if I have ever seen one.  Plus the pics Dan took at CES make this tablet look really impressive. Motorola has really planned ahead here, with a line of keyboards and other accessories to go with the Xoom. Between the specs, the style, and the accessory support this looks like it could be a winner not only against the iPad but against the army of Android tablets being released this year. According to Dan, “Up close they impress. This actually might be the year of the tablet!” I cannot wait to see what else Motorola has up it’s sleeve!
