CES Snippets- Ooma Updates Mobile Calling

My home telephone is now free thanks to Ooma, the company that advertises that you can buy their hardware once and get free calling for the life of the system. It is a bold promise and… It delivers. I switched to Ooma over two years ago when I bought one of their original systems, and have not looked back. Better still, for a few dollars a month you can subscribe to Ooma Premier and get a host of extra features — and get Ooma To Go for your handheld device.

While we were are CES the Ooma booth was packed. PACKED!!! At the same time the company rolled out new mobile features such as High-Definition (HD) Voice and made it available on the Ooma Mobile Application. This allows customers to enjoy “outstanding high-definition voice quality with Ooma PureVoice HD technology”.

In addition, they made the upgraded Ooma Mobile HD App available on Android phones. Within minutes of downloading it my Tab, which in the US has been neutered and cannot do voice calls, was making calls with ease. Better still, whether you are using the Ooma iOS app or the Ooma Android app, when you make a call it looks as if you are making it from your home Ooma system.

Ooma wasn’t done with the announcements though. They also revealed a new partnership with Clarity®, “a division of Plantronics, and a leading provider of communication solutions for boomers and seniors” and will release an integrated phone solution that features Clarity phones and the Ooma Telo. We’ll have more details on this partnership as they are shared with us.

Ooma is one of those tech offerings that have not only impressed me but that I use on a daily basis. It is great to see them continuing to build their customer base, add features and add value to its loyal, and growing, following.

(Full disclosure, Ooma has been kind enough to provide me with access to the Premier service so I can check out new services as they come on line. Second full disclosure, if they didn’t I would sign up without a second thought… It adds that much value to the system.)
