Last month I wrote about a new tracker that shows the comparative data used by the iPhone on Verizon and AT&T and uses that as a comparison for the number of active phones.

The initial data set was likely skewed by the ‘new user effect’ of folks over-using their data plan as they signed up for the new Verizon iPhone. A month later, however, it is clear that regardless of non-existent retail lines at launch, there have been HUGE Verizon iPhone sales, and folks are making great use of those phones. The latest data shows Verizon with a greater than 12% overall share of the iPhone market:

Since the launch of the Verizon iPhone, we’ve been tracking iPhones through our system and breaking down what percentage come from AT&T vs. Verizon. As of today, Verizon is up to 12.7% of all iPhone web usage, based on data from the Chitika ad network.

An update shows that number dropping slightly, which is not unexpected based on the dynamics of data usage. One thing is clear – the Verizon iPhone is a major hit! Whether the number is 11 or 13%, considering that AT&T has had an iPhone exclusive for 3.5 years and Verizon has had it for a month … those are amazing numbers!

I wonder what this has done to sales of other phones on Verizon? All I know is that during my three trips to a Verizon store since the iPhone 4 launch the demo units have always been in use … which isn’t true with the prominent Motorola display.

But as I have mentioned, in my area AT&T has spotty coverage and Verizon has amazing full 3G everywhere … so it isn’t surprising to me to see massive adoption locally. What have you seen in your area?
