Losing a Cell Phone and Finding Honest People

“Uh…I can’t find my phone…” is not something anyone wants to discover. It’s especially upsetting when you’re in the airport at 5:3o in the morning and your wife just realized she left her smartphone somewhere between the car and the gate. Uh-oh…

That was us on Friday morning. It was not good, since we were flying to Florida and already through security, and neither of us was sure where Sarah had left her Incredible. I tried calling it on the off-chance it was in her jacket pocket, but it rang and rang and went to voicemail. Then we brainstormed and concluded the only place we had a shot of finding it was at airport check-in, so we gathered our stuff and started to head back. It seemed pretty hopeless since unattended smartphones don’t generally stick around public places for long. On the off-chance someone grabbed it, I called her phone again.

Success! A stranger answered, and we found out Sarah had dropped her phone on the shuttle between airport parking and the terminal. The driver of the shuttle found it and handed it in at the parking office, where it was currently sitting. I was already amazed that the phone had been found, and the people at Avistar parking were awesome. They put her phone in an envelope with Sarah’s name on it and my cell number, and when we picked up the car after landing they had her phone all ready to go.

When we first realized the phone was missing, we both assumed the worst, that it was lost for good. Instead, we learned that honest people are everywhere. It would have been easy for Sarah’s Incredible to just disappear, and instead, it was safely returned to us! And thanks to how great they were, the folks at Avistar have a customer for life. We’ll never use another parking service to fly out of Newark Airport again!
