My family went to the midnight showing of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 last year, and we were all so exhausted that we said ‘never again’. But as we get more and more excited for the final film, my wife said “are you guys up for another show” and we all said YEAH!

Early reviews are saying the finale is excellent, which makes us even more pumped to see it – not that it would matter at this point!

I thought that by now all of the pre-show hype would settle down, but apparently Warner Brothers has at least one card up its sleeve: a look back through the movies. There isn’t much to say other than it touches loads of great stuff and the excitement builds through each chapter!

What do you think? Are you going to see the last movie right away? Which is your favorite?

  1. Definitely not seeing this one right away. My son gets angry at all of the non-canon crap that they throw into the films, and I sort of agree with him. Thankfully, the last one wasn’t nearly so bad, but no Kreacher’s Tale? No Krum at the wedding? Hedwig’s travel at the escape is different from the book. That silly and unnecessary chase scene after visiting Xenophilus Lovegood? No indication that saying the name “Voldemort” is cursed (though they got in trouble each time it happened, it was never pointed out, as it should have been by Ron.) Ron is supposed to start listening to the wizarding wireless after he returns, not before he leaves. They are not traveling wearing the cloak. Etc., etc., etc. The fact that the trailer for the new film shows Harry and Voldie on a tower, “Let’s finish this”; later, both scrambling to grab for the Elder wand – neither are in the book; not a good sign, in my opinion. We’re on vacation next week at the beach, so we’ll find a rainy day or some night well after opening day to go see it, and let the crazies crowd into the first weekend.

SO LOOKING FORWARD to more Alan Rickman in this next film, though.

My favorite of the seven so far? EASILY The Prisoner of Azkaban. Alfonso Cuaron is easily the best director who has worked on these films. I’m very underwhelmed by David Yates’s films (though, of course, they are better than Chris Columbus’s.)
