If you drink a lot of mass-produced cold beverages that come in bottles with twist caps, then you probably don’t often need a bottle opener. Similarly, if you drink a lot of beverages that come in aluminum cans, then you might have a bottle opener … located somewhere in your junk drawer. But if you like to drink bottled-beverages that don’t easily twist open, or if you regularly run into twist-caps that don’t seem to loosen easily, then you no doubt keep several bottle openers placed around your kitchen and back patio … and you have probably had moments when you have not been able to find a single one of them. =P

Come to think of it, that must be why there are so many people who have a repertoire of bottle-opening tricks — like using their wedding ring to open a beer bottle — or worse, using their teeth. Kev does this thing where he’ll strike the edge of his bottle cap on a nearby metal ledge. Every time I see him do it, I am convinced he is going to end up with a jagged glass bottle top and the need for a clean-up crew.

So far that hasn’t happened, but I figure it is only a matter of time.

The Bottle Opener Fridge Magnet from Convenient Gadgets is one way to make sure that there is always an opener on hand. Unlike others, the fridge magnet isn’t exactly portable, so it isn’t easily misplaced. This bottle opener is made entirely of stainless steel, which means it will look good just about anywhere; just stick it on a metal surface and forget about it.

The opener measures 8″ tall x 5″ wide, and the circular bottle-opening portion near the bottom sticks out about 1.5″. Two non-marring wide magnets are affixed to the back, and they are strong enough that once a location has been chosen to install the opener, it won’t be easily moved.

Our fridge is on the edge of the kitchen, but in a more central location there is a convenient microwave with a free side just perfect for affixing the bottle opener fridge magnet. You’ll notice another opener in this photo; that one has been known to disappear — but only at such times as when it is most needed. =P

With this solidly mounted on the microwave, there is no more fumbling around looking for an opener; our trash can is conveniently located just below the counter, so proper bottle-cap disposal is quietly encouraged to both family and guests.

The bottle opener fridge magnet works perfectly whether it is mounted on a refrigerator, a microwave, a tailgate, or the side of a filing cabinet. If you have a non-stainless steel flat metal surface, then you can mount this bottle opener.

The Bottle Opener Fridge Magnet is available from Convenient Gadgets and other retailers.

MSRP: $18.95

What I Like: Attatches to any metal surface (except for stainless steel, of course); ends the search for a bottle opener when the portable one has been misplaced, again;  looks nice and works perfectly; can be removed when you are ready, but it won’t come off until then

What Needs Improvement: Nothing; it works perfectly! =)
