It is no secret that Android devices are extremely popular, based on the utility of the operating system as well as inexpensive pricing from most carriers. Now US Cellular introduces the HTC Wildfire S Android smartphone for FREE after rebate. It is a solid phone at a great price. Let’s take a quick look!

Here is what US Cellular says:

Get the HTC Wildfire STM to keep you at the center of your social world. Featuring AndroidTM 2.3 (Gingerbread) and HTC SenseTM, the HTC Wildfire S brings together all the different ways to communicate with your friends and family (calls, text messages and status updates) all in one place, quickly and easily. A 5 MP camera with flash and video recording lets you capture every moment in detail, so you can quickly upload and share your most memorable moments.

This is definitely a ‘mid-range’ phone in terms of performance, featuring a 600MHz single core CPU, 512MB RAM, and support for up to a 32GB micro-SD card with 2GB included.

The phone itself is very small, with a 3.2″ 320 x 480 pixel screen. The screen is protected with a Gorilla Glass display. The 3.2″ screen is just slightly larger than my Droid Pro, but without a keyboard the device is quite small. Side-by-side shots with an iPhone 4 show that the Wildfire is ~0.75″ smaller in height, and weighs an ounce less (~4 ounces total).

The WildFire has gotten some solid reviews, which have noted excellent call quality, solid performance for a phone in this category, and a very usable camera. The portability – and budget price – are certainly not a bad thing either. If you are in the market for a budget Android phone this is definitely worth checking out.

Head to US Cellular and check out the HTC Wildfire S!
