If you think making a promo-video is easy, then you need to think again. What you see on TV, in the movies or even on You Tube has been sliced and diced in more ways than you can ever imagine. It also likely took five or ten or fifty takes to get the right words in the right places. Most of the time you’ll never see the outtakes except on a bloopers reel. And even then, the bloopers have been edited for effect. So what if we had a bloopers reel that proves that what can go wrong will go wrong? Well that’s what we have here. You see, Michael Hess of Skooba Design emailed Judie and me the other day and said:
We were shooting a video for a new custom design section of our site, and for some reason I just couldn’t get it. Normally I get a video done in 2 or 3 takes, but this one was absolutely insane… between flubbing lines and cameraman Kevin’s phone ringing (or his uncontrollable giggling) it took me 20 or 30 tries to do a 1 or 2 minute intro. This stuff normally comes very naturally to me but for some reason my mind melted trying to get this one done. Unbeknownst to me, Kevin kept all the bad takes and stayed after hours last night to put together a blooper reel worthy of a movie credit roll. I must say he did a great editing job and it’s actually pretty darned funny (in fact everyone here is pushing me to let them put it on the live site as an outtake video when the real one goes up).
Michael sent it for our own amusement, but we watched, we laughed, we asked if we could post it, Michael wasn’t sure … and we pushed even harder. And then Michael gave us permission to post it. Before we do though we thought we might share the final, polished version.
