If you were a fan of the hit show, “Seinfeld,” surely you can remember the episode when George has back problems from the giant wallet he was carrying. That episode struck a chord with me and actually inspired me to look into getting a front pocket wallet. For years I have only carried a wallet in the front, relieving my hind end from sitting on a giant lump. Call me spoiled, but even a front pocket wallet is often too much for me. I never carry it on the sports fields where the freedom to move easily is imperative.
One thing I usually carry is my phone. Since I am addicted to staying connected, I have adapted to carrying a phone in my pocket. When I saw the opportunity to review the Casellet wallet case for my iPhone 4, I was instantly intrigued. The idea of carrying my important cards and some cash without the need of a wallet sounds like a deal with me. Having spent a week and a half wallet free, let’s take a look.
CASELLET Features:
• High quality polycarbonate case
• Brushed aluminum backing with etched logo
• Felt lining with letter press logo
• Holds up to 5 cards (+ cash w/ less cards)
• Low profile hinge & recessed quick release clasp
• Everything in a thin 18mm case
My first impression of the Casellet is that it is really thick. I have always preferred a case that did not add much bulk and was instantly concerned with carrying one this large. This is still a small issue, but the positives just might outweigh this issue. Essentially, the Casellet is a standard looking case with an added compartment that hinges open. The back of the case sports a stylish brushed aluminum look that is quite attractive and the case comes in white, black and pink. I am using the white which has not discolored or stained after some hard use. It is as bright as the day it was opened.
The phone snaps into the case from the top and it is always best to open the wallet before taking in or out. Once installed, the phone receives a fair amount of protection. The side of the case does stick up a small amount which should be enough to protect the screen when it is set face down. The speaker and microphone are fully open and there is plenty of room to insert any sync cord. You will have to take the phone out of the case to use a charging station. The lock button and headphone jack are also easily accessible and will accommodate any plug. The volume and mute switch are accessible, but I think the opening is a bit off and should be moved up slightly. All in all, the case provides plenty of protection while ensuring everything is accessible and functional.
The back of the Casellet swings open by pressing the release button either with a fingernail or the tip of your finger. The wallet compartment includes a plastic clip that looks similar to a money clip. Plastic barriers set the obvious standard shape of a license or credit card underneath the clip. The best way to insert an ID or card is to slide it from the bottom under the clip. there is enough room to carry up to five cards or fewer cards plus some cash. While many people carry more than this daily, my debit card, driver’s license and a couple dollars are really all I need most of the time.
While I was skeptical due to the added size of the wallet compartment, the Casellet is actually extremely usable. Being relieved of carrying a wallet of any kind has been more enjoyable than I thought. In fact, I currently do not plan on switching back to my old way of carrying my items anytime soon. If it was possible to refrain from carrying any keys along with no wallet, I may be the happiest man around. There is probably enough room for one key in the Casellet, but carrying they unlock box is not an option. Even if you did not want to carry the Casellet daily, it is a great option for a quick trip to the movies or the gym where carrying a purse or wallet is not convenient. The case is perfect for someone like me who is constantly on the go and often on a field or court coaching. No George Costanza wallet for this guy!

What I Like: My pockets are free! I often only carry my phone. It is liberating!
What Needs Improvement: The opening for the volume rocker and mute switch should be slightly raised.
