That’s No Alien, That’s a 3D-printed Designer Pen

I love pens. That’s kind of funny since I don’t really use pen and paper any longer but I still have an amazing fountain pen collection and I truly appreciate a fine, beautiful or interesting pen. This one is all of that and more. (It does look like something you would see in an old scifi movie does’t it?)

As Adrian Grenier’s SHFT webstore notes,

We’re always interested in innovations in 3D printing, the new design tech that involves making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file. Designer Richard Elaver, a metalsmith by trade, has been busy developing useful objects using the burgeoning technology. His “Torpedo” pen is a nice example. Made from durable nylon which Elaver 3D printed into an open network of hexagonal cells, the hollow object houses a Montblanc rollerball pen (included) to create a lightweight, functional writing instrument.

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone.
