iTypewriter Concept Brings Inefficient Typing Nostalgia to the iPad!

It seems that all tablet users are looking for a great keyboard to use when they are sitting at a desk. I love my Apple keyboard dock at my desk, Apple Bluetooth or Logitech Android keyboard around the house. But long before we could take a tablet on to the back deck while relaxing on a summer night, I would bring my old typewriter out with me to work on a story or report.

While I have no desire to meld tablet and typewriter, for some it might be a cool trip down memory lane. Designer Austin Yang has come up with yet another cool looking creation – the iTypewriter. Here is his description:

It is a typewriter for the ipad. Users can enjoy the old feeling of typing and also the lastest technology. Even though the elder users who have never used the computer or ipad, they can use this familiar typewriter and type in the familiar operation way.

For some specific group of users, this product provide an easier way to type on the ipad. People could be able to recollect old experience and memory by familiar appearance and haptic feedback. Instead of stroking on the screen with no feedback, this product can reflect a strong haptic feedback. User can experience the physical strength transfer from the keypad and the movement of each key.

Check out the video of someone using iTypewriter to type even slower than I could manage!

Looking at this concept my initial thought was that the plunger travel was way too long which makes typing very inefficient compared with a normal typewriter … or at least it seems that way watching the typing on the screen. It is a cool concept … that I would never use.

What do you think about this? Any interest?
