There are plenty of crazies on both sides of the political aisle, but as a scientist what REALLY bugs me is total misinformation and the perpetuation of blatantly incorrect information. Again, there are plenty of examples on both sides, but the amazing thing recently is the extent to which anti-abortion legislators will resort to misinformation and lies to push their agenda rather than simply standing on their values and principles. By now most folks have heard about Todd Akin, who said:

First of all, from what I understand from doctors, [pregnancy from rape] is really rare… If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.

Which is not just incorrect, it is actually the EXACT OPPOSITE of the truth. This goes along with recent comments by Ann Romney stating it is absurd that a woman should even THINK she deserves to be paid the same as a man, which goes along with repealing equal pay laws in states like Wisconsin, and even so-called ‘women as livestock’ bills where the logic is that if cattle can carry a stillborn fetus, so can women.

Now a group has put out a parody of ‘Call Me Maybe’ (yeah, I know) making a general swipe at what they see as the crazy attempts to over-regulate women by largely old white Christian men. Some of it is specific to a local legislator nicknamed ‘the Cooch’. Check it out:
