As I use my iPad more and more in work settings, I’m finding that the right accessories make all the difference. The right keyboard lets me write more quickly. The right headphones let me enjoy my music in peace. The right external microphone makes recording audio easier and better. And the right case is simply essential. For example, when I’m using the iPad during services, having something as light as possible is key. So at service time I simply pop my iPad out of whatever case I’m using but, thanks to the Bodyguardz skin on the back, I know it is still protected from scratches. When I went to Washington for the day last month for some meetings, the Sena Florence Portfolio that includes not only protection for the iPad but also holds a pad of paper and a pen was remarkably handy. In a meeting setting it’s a great case!

But what if I’m out and about for the day, planning to work and meet with people, and want to travel as light as possible? That’s where the Sena Magia Zip comes in quite handy. The Sena Magia Zip is a leather portfolio that zips closed to protect your iPad completely when not in use. When you do open it though you’ll find that on one side there is effectively a flat wallet. There are slots for cards, one with an open window for a driver’s license, two smaller slots for papers and a larger slot for full sheets of paper. The iPad sits on the other side and is completely accessible thanks to an innovative method for securing it with in the case. There’s also a pen loop for the included Sena pen. Finally, there is an integrated stand so that you can easily view your iPad hands-free when you need to.

Let’s take a look and start the giveaway contest for this case. (We won’t be giving it away in the newsletter this weekend but rather it will be awarded the following week.)

Here’s our video review…

I like the Magia Zip for a few reasons. First, it really does look and feel classy. Second, it really does protect your iPad beautifully. Third, it lets you grab your iPad and know that you not only have your tablet but also your cards, wallet and a few other essentials. Talk about traveling light! That noted I won’t be using it. Why? Simple, when I want to carry my iPad in a leather portfolio I use the Florence Portfolio we reviewed at the beginning of the summer. That’s good news for you because it means you get a chance to win this review sample.

If you want good protection that lets you travel light the Sena Magia Zip should be on your short list of options! Details, colors and ordering information can be found here on the Sena website.

MSRP: $119.95

What I Like: Sena quality with but regard to both the quality of the leather and the workmanship; six closed for complete protection when your iPad is in transit; nice selection of storage slots so your folio can also serve as your wallet; iPad is secured into the case with complete access available; the tape can be refreshed so that you can remove and reinstall the iPad numerous times.

What Needs Improvement: there were reports last year of some issues with the standard mechanism on other cases and I’m hoping that has been fixed for this case but only time can tell
