Slacker App for Windows 8 Launched and Will Livestream ABC Election 2012 Coverage

For those individuals like me who have just started using the latest Microsoft OS incarnation that is Windows 8 on their PCs, Slacker announced the official launch of their music service supporting Windows 8. The free Slacker app is designed such that it takes advantage of the new tiling and UI aspects of Windows 8, multitasking, and even the Share charm feature. In Windows 8, apps like Slacker don’t flip to the “old” Windows 7-style desktop but are integrated into the Windows 8 UI, providing a fluid, seamless experience, particularly if you’ve set up Windows 8 with a Microsoft Live Account that helps maintain a consistent interface if you possess multiple Windows 8 devices, such desktop and a tablet.

“Great apps make a great Windows 8 experience, and Slacker’s personal radio app incorporates some of the Windows 8 features we’re most excited to share with our users,” said John Richards, senior director, Windows App Marketing at Microsoft Corp. “Not only does it take advantage of the same striking visual design principles as Windows 8, but also it is a great app for the way people currently consume media — on every device, virtually wherever they go.”

Featuring a music library that is more than 10 times larger than Pandora’s catalogue, Slacker gives users access to more than 200 expert-curated, artist-hosted showcase and leading music festival stations. Slacker also includes a range of audio content, including personalized ESPN Radio, ABC News, comedy and more.

“With Slacker for Windows 8, we’ve been able to create one of the most immersive and engaging music experiences that now lets people discover, share, and enjoy music like never before,” said Jonathan Sasse, senior vice president of products and programming at Slacker. “Windows 8 is one of the most innovative platforms that we’ve developed on, and we’re incredibly excited to be able to bring the Slacker experience to Windows 8 devices around the world.”
For those interested in following the election today, Slacker will be offering Live ABC News Station streaming of the 2012 election as it happens.
The Slacker app for Windows 8 and Windows 8 RT is free and can be found here in the Windows Store. If you elect to give it a whirl, let us know what you think below!
