If you read the site you’ll know that I am a huge fan of Lifeproof’s cases. I liked the one for my iPhone 4S but the thinner, more refined iPhone 5 case takes things to an entirely new level.

Combine that with the amazing experience of using an iPod touch as an underwater video camera thanks to Lifeproof and there should be no doubt that this is one case line worth checking out.

That’s why our last few minutes on the floor at CES 2013 were spent speaking to Jonathan Wagner, Lifeproof’s Communications Director.

It seems that most every case manufacturer is getting into the durable, water-resistant or water proof case market but it is Lifeproof that stands out in the marketplace.

The cases have won awards and the booth was packed the entire time I was there. The reason is clear. Lifeproof’s cases hold up to the promise they make. The cases are rugged and truly keep your device protected. And they are waterproof. (That’s waterproof not water-resistant.) We asked Jonathan Wagner about the company’s meteoric rise. Here’s our conversation.

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him. Dan is married to Raina Goldberg who is also an avid user of Apple products. They live in New Jersey with their golden doodle Nava.
