Last year, Judie and I spent time going deep with Windows Phone 7. We put our iPhones in the drawer and made HTC Titans our only phones. We both liked the experience, but ultimately returned to our iPhones. When Microsoft sunset Windows Phone 7.5 just weeks after releasing the Nokia Lumia 900 Windows Phone I was not impressed. It was a kick in the face of those who were early adopters of Windows Phone. I really thought I was be done with Windows Phone forever. I wasn’t. Judie wasn’t either.
In fact, when HTC and Microsoft released the flagship of Windows Phone 8 this past fall, Judie flew to San Francisco on her own dime for the event. Now, a few months later, our iPhones remain our primary devices, but we both have phones running Windows Phone 8. It is an impressive and refined Operating System that is only getting better and better with time. The hardware is too, and there are now some great choices available. Choice is good, but it also makes deciding WHICH Windows Phone to get a challenge. That’s where having a friend who is an expert on Windows Phone is a huge help. That expert? Our friend Mike Temporale of Mobile Jaw, and this week he reviewed not one but two different phones running WP8.
In the first review Mike takes a look at the Samsung ATIV S from Rogers. It has an 8MP camera, a speedy processor and a 4.8″ screen. Mike’s take on it? The Samsung ATIV S is a “solid” option if you are looking for a new Windows Phone. You can read his review here.
Mike also takes a look at the Nokia Lumia 920. An update to last year’s Lumia 900, the Lumia 920 offers touches like a “glove-ready” touch screen, near field communication (NFC), and a large 4.5 inch HD+ display. His biggest complaint about the phone is its size and weight, since the phone comes in at 130.3 x 70.8 x 10.7mm and 185 grams. His conclusion is that if you are looking for a fast, sturdy phone with a superb mobile camera and wireless charging, the Lumia 920 is a winner. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a small, light phone, then the Lumia 920 won’t be for you. You can read Mike’s full review on Mobile Jaw.
