IK Multimedia iKlip Studio for iPad Mini

Just about a year ago, I reviewed the original iKlip Studio. It was a simple and short review, and for good reason – the iKlip was simplistic and direct in design, solid in build and materials, and well executed. Back at CES 2013, IK Multimedia announced they were building an iKlip for the iPad Mini. Today they have released it, so let’s see how it compares!

Overall Impressions

One of the big things that impressed me about the original iKlip Studio was the rugged set of materials. My kids and I threw it around, quickly assembled and disassembled … and yet a year later is as good as new. The iKlip Studio for iPad Mini is basically the same thing – but this time centered around the iPad Mini and other 7″ tablets.

The iKlip Mini comes folded up and there are small and thin tabs that hold it secure. It pops open quickly and easily, and at that point you can choose from multiple tilt angles for your iPad Mini. The tabbed stand slots in easily and securely.

The operating angles run the gamut from whether you are sitting or standing. For example, if you are working at a desk, you can have it nearly vertical with a slight angle. Or if you are using your guitar and Amplitube, you can have it laying at a much steeper angle that allows you quick visibility to everything going on.

As noted, the stand works for the iPad Mini ‘naked’ or in a case (or Smart Cover) and with pretty much every other small tablet. It does this by having a smaller primary ‘lip’, and a larger lip to accommodate larger cases. This way your device is secure regardless of how it is stored.

These are all great features, and all get back to why I loved the original – it became an immediately obvious solution, yet one that had never been made. It just worked great in every way. As I noted I’ve been using the iKlip Studio with the full-sized iPad for a year and it has held up great – so I have no concerns about using the iKlip Mini with my iPad Mini and whatever small tablet I grab next!
