Apple WWDC Developer Conference is THE media event of the spring for Apple fanboys and girls everywhere. It is usually the place we get our first look at the next versions of iOS and OS X but, more than that, it is the event that reveals Apple’s overall direction for their products. At times there are also some hardware announcements.

Screen Shot 2013-06-10 at 12.10.36 PM

And, while this is more geared to developers, the fact that the Apple Store online is currently down indicates that there will be some new hardware revealed. We have been careful not to speculate and quote rumors but serious news sources are now making it clear that we will be seeing iOS 7, a new streaming music service and more when the Keynote address begins at 10am PST.

The event is taking place at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California, but Apple is streaming live to Apple TVs and through their website. We’ll share everything as it comes in. Be sure to check the comments, and add your own thoughts.

Stay tuned.

  1. Anki is kind of cool…but nothing that hasn’t been done and nothing that will excite….well a lot of people I know! 🙂

  2. Now I need another display! That looks cool in Maverick.

  3. Nice features. Not sure about tagging. To me, it’s just like: Why don’t you use folders instead? The only thing that’s kind of cool with tagging is say you tagged a picture as having your children in it….makes it easy to find all the pictures in multiple folders. So I guess there’s that. Nothing wowing yet IMHO….

  4. I like the push notifications and background updates in Mavericks. Hoping they hurry to iOS 7. Have to get back to work!

  5. The map app looks good and being able to send info to my iPhone is killer. Looking forward to it.

  6. I was hoping to download toay!! LOL

  7. Curious how much battery will be saved in real life. Could be very cool if it actually works as advertised (or even close).

  8. Well, the good news is that the four people using ibooks will be able to enjoy them on their macs as well. Yay?

  9. Called it. 😉

MacPro needed an update. First real redesign in a while…not sure I like the plastic….

    • I’m liking that price drop, though. I’d love to run with an OSX system for a while and compare its functionality to my Win 8 system.

      • Was listening to Leo and he made a good point….Cylinders aren’t a good use of space…then again I don’t care if it isn’t a good use of space as long as everything’s in there.

    • David Min | June 11, 2013 at 8:52 am |

The blogosphere is a-buzzing with people bashing and praising the new design of the Mac Pro.

I think a lot of the bashing has to do with the fact that Apple has fundamentally changed the philosophy around the the Mac Pro. Previously, it was the only Mac that allowed users to monkey around the internals. The end user could install more memory, hard drives, graphics cards, etc. Now, it is basically a cylindrical iMac (sans monitor).

I have a Mac Pro circa 2008. I have done a few memory upgrades and also installed another HDD and upgraded the graphics once (or twice, I can’t remember). To me, the lack of upgrade paths won’t be too much of a hindrance, although the price of the new Mac Pro may be… I guess we’ll see.

      • In a way, yeah it is. However you’d never find Xeon E5 processors or workstation class graphics chips in a iMac. Remember that this thing can drive 4K displays! There aren’t many of those even out yet!

Personally? Thunderbolt 2 is faster then PCI-E. Plus there will probably be an enclosure(bade by a third party) that lets you load cards like fibrechannel cards and connect it via thunderbolt if you really need it. Plus there are ways to connect fibre to the thunderbolt ports as well.

Do I like that I can’t monkey with the internals? Nope. Do I care? Not really as I am not going to probably be able to afford one anyway! 🙂

        • David Min | June 11, 2013 at 3:14 pm |

I don’t disagree with anything you’re pointing out, but there is still resentment among some hardcore types that the decision/ability to upgrade has been taken away from the end-user.

Honestly, it is likely a fraction of the user base that will find the highest end configuration of Mac Pro to be inadequate, so the point is likely moot. But there are still people around that are angry that Apple killed the rack server Macs.

          • Yup and my work is one of them. They wanted to virtualize Mac OS X. That CAN be done on a Mac Server. So what they did was bought two of the current MacPros and have them sitting in the rack. They’d have much rather had Xserves! 🙂

  10. Different look to iOS7.

Hmm…the 3Dish things makes me thing: 3D screen on iPhone 5s?
