C.24 The Music Keyboard for iPad

C.24 The Music Keyboard for iPad

The development of music hardware to work with Apple’s iPad and iPhone over the last few years has been nothing short of stunning. Things like the Behringer iStudio and iRig HD allow you to turn your iPad into a serious music workstation. But the folks at Miselu found that the piano keyboard interface options were too limited and set out to make an interface that is fully functional while maintaining the side and design of the iPad.

Project Title: C.24 – The Music Keyboard for iPad

Status: Active

Closing Date for Funding: August 8, 2013

From the developer: Here are some key features:

The C.24 is a two octave wireless music keyboard designed for iPad. The ultra-portable C.24 transforms from a protective cover into a piano-style keyboard at the touch of a spring-loaded latch.

Why I think you should back this effort:

I love making music with my iPad, and tend to use the iRig Keys as my ‘piano’. It is solid, but lacks the expressive capabilities of my larger MIDI keyboards. What the C.24 offers is an even more portable keyboard with greater expression capabilities through aftertouch and detailed velocity tracking as well as fully programmable buttons on the dual capacitive ribbon controllers.

Explanation of Functionality

Whereas most small keyboards use springs for the keyboard response, the C.24 uses magnets. This provides better longevity as well as a semi-weighted feel. Communication with the iPad is handled by low-energy Bluetooth, which removes the need for cables and will keep the interface from draining power from your tablet.

The C.24 serves as an integrated cover and a keyboard stand. To do this they have a magnetic cover attachment which easily releases, and then there is a flip-tab to release the keyboard and have the keys move up to the full travel position. It is an ingenious design that means you can always have a great 24-key piano interface with you!
