Wireless audio has gone from simple convenience to serious audio experience over the last few years thanks to Play-fi, AirPlay and, of course, Bluetooth. Honestly, at this point I wouldn’t even consider an audio system that didn’t offer the ability to cut the cords and go wireless. But while it used to be the case that you had to choose between the convenience of wireless audio and the quality of the music you can enjoy that is far from the case these days. Wireless audio is here to stay and, best of all, it is getting better and better. It is for that reason I want to recommend a new series of posts on wireless audio. It is a great way to learn about this important technology from one of the experts.

Mike Giffin is a a 35-year veteran of the audio industry. He spent 22 years in various leadership positions with Harman International before starting Wren Sound Systems. As Giffin notes,

In the last decade, amazing things have happened to the audio industry. The way we get our music is changing rapidly. It’s not a CD and iPod world anymore – smartphones and tablets are fast becoming the primary source for music.

With that in mind he launched Wren Sound Systems and brought the Wren V5 to market. Currently available as the V5AP for those using Apple’s AirPlay technology and the V5PF using Play-Fi for those who prefer Android tablets and smartphones, the Wren V5 has been getting rave reviews.

Giffin is now sharing his knowledge through a series of blog posts. His objective is to “simplify what to the average music lover is a complicated and confusing subject”. The plan is to publish a new installment every other week and the first post is entitled “What is wireless audio?” It is a great read and I highly recommend it. Click here to jump to he post. It is a few minutes well spent.
