Our friends at Skooba Design and Saddlebck Leather both go the extra mile to create bags that last and last. Creating durable, long-lasting products isn’t necessarily great for business since it cuts down on repeat and replacement purchases. Knockoffs however, that’s where the real money is. In this video Saddleback Leather shows you how to get started.

Obviously this video, which came to us via Skooba Design, is all about educating consumers so they better understand that “you get what you pay for”. It makes the point quite effectively. If you look for a deal you will likely find one, but the product you buy may be of substandard quality. It may look good initially, but it won’t wear well and, before long, you’ll be in the market for something new.  It is worth watching the full video!

I watched this “tutorial” on how to knock off high-end goods and was struck by the fact that even my very first bags from Skooba Design still look fantastic. (The one we just gave away in our Big Bag Giveaway still looked brand new!) And while I have not had a chance to use any of Saddleback Leather’s bags over an extended period of time, I have no doubt they not only hold up remarkably well but that, as they age and gain personality, they become even better. In other words, the upfront cost may be higher, but the “cost-of-ownership” actually ends up being far less. That’s good business … at least for us as consumers.
