Imagine if you could pick from one of more than thirty different watch band colors and then design your own watch face. That’s what the Mod-To-Order project on Kickstarter is all about. Modify Watches is looking for $50,000 to make it happen. Having received some early samples of the watch, I sure hope it is successful. Here’s a closer look.

It is a simple concept — you get to choose the color watch band you prefer, upload the graphic of your choice, and then wear your own unique custom watch. The watch itself is rather basic. It offers no smartwatch connectivity, and it doesn’t even show the date. This is all about having a fun, custom watch as wrist decoration. It does tell time however, and it has a second hand. For all the other functionality you’ll simply have to turn to your smartphone. The good news is that the watches are remarkably comfortable to wear.

While the concept is simple, the actually process of creating your personal watch or watches isn’t. After all, how do you decide on the color you want when there are so many from which to choose? The good news is that the watches are inexpensive enough (or will be once the project is successful) that you can purchase a whole collection to mix and match.

Modify Watches is offering a wide ranger of different pledge options for backers. A pledge of $12 gets you a colorful strap. A pledge of $25 gets you a starter kit that lets you pair one of the first 5 limited edition fan-designed watch faces with a limited edition green and a black strap. A pledge of $59 lets you create your own unique one -of-a-kind watch. Of course there are more pledge options. Check them out here.

So it is a simple formula — one band plus one custom watch insert equals something fun and unique. The Mod-to-Order Kickstarter project is live now, and it has just under three weeks to go. Check out the project and back it here.
