I had a meeting at the Harman International flagship store in Manhattan yesterday. I arrived early, so I spent some time checking out the store. While there, I helped sell a pair of JBL S400BT wireless headphones, and I took a closer look at the Harman Sound Spider; it lets you listen to headphones before you buy.
The 9-legged Sound Spider shows off some of the key headphones from Harman Kardon, JBL and AKG. On display were the Harman Kardon Soho wired headphones Judie reviewed (read it), the JBL Synchros S700 headphones I posted on last fall (read it) and the JBL Synchros S400BT we took a look at here. While there, a woman came in and said she needed to pick up a pair of on-ear Bluetooth headphones. I pointed her to the S400BTs and told her about my experience with them. Thanks to the Harman Sound Spider, she was able to take a listen to all nine of the headphones on display. Ultimately she bought the S400BTs!
The Sound Spider isn’t just a headphone display. Instead, thanks to the touch panels beneath each of the nine pair of headphones, it is an interactive demo that lets you enjoy a variety of genres of music so you can really get to know the various headphones. Since each person’s taste in music is different, the Sound Spider lets you hear YOUR style of music and determine if the headphones present it the way you most enjoy listening. The display also lets you learn about Harman International and the various companies that are part of the powerhouse company.
