I love that my Sony Xperia Z2 is completely waterproof; I even threw it into my mother’s pool the other day to prove it to my niece and nephew! And if your phone is waterproof, shouldn’t your speaker be, too? The Braven Mira is round, gets quite loud and, perhaps most interestingly, it has an IPX5 water-resistant rating.A Bluetooth speaker with an unusual look and design, it has an MSRP of just under $100. The black version is currently almost half off [Affiliate Link] here on Amazon.

The Braven Mira is made from plastic, and it has a the Braven name splashed across the front. If you don’t like products that serve as portable billboards, then you aren’t going to love this design.

A silver-colored ring around the speaker itself houses the controls. These include the Power and Pairing buttons, the Play/Pause Button, and the Volume Up/Down buttons.

The ring on the back of the speaker serves not only as a built-in stand that can be adjusted to a variety of angles but it also allows you to hang the speaker from a tree branch or pretty much anything else you might choose. And when you are done packing up, the speaker is as easy as folding the ring back into place. It is a neat design and, assuming the ring doesn’t break or beacon overly loose over time, adds a nice level of functionality to the Braven Mira.

When paired with the IPX5 weather-resistant rating, the hanging functionality is doubly useful.

Here’s what Braven has to say about the speaker:

The Mira by BRAVEN is Bluetooth audio made for your home, designed with an integrated multi-purpose hook, IPX5 water-resistant exterior and convenient App.

Lightweight and compact, the Mira can be easily moved from room to room and features a unique built-in multi-purpose hook to easily stand or hang the Mira. Control volume, change tracks and power on or off using its frontal controls and splash away with its IPX5 water-resistant rating. Download the free Mira App to stream, create unique playlists and control your speaker. With 10 hours of wireless Bluetooth audio, its versatility and design make the Mira the ultimate home audio speaker.

And here’s our Video Review of the Braven Mira:

Of course the speaker also doubles as a speakerphone. The special Braven Mira app is a nice addition.

The app works well enough although I’ve pretty much stopped using speaker-specific apps and make use of either the native music app or Beats Music. Still… Options are always nice and I give Braven credit for going the extra mile to release such an app.

In all the Braven Mira is a good speaker but not a great one. I don’t personally love the round design of it and I worry about the long-term use of the ring. It sounds good… Like what you would expect from a sub-$100 speaker… And the addition of waterproofing and a specialized app adds value to it. If this is a design you like, if you want something that will go with you pretty much anywhere you want to go and you want to spend under $100 it is worth a look. Learn more here.

What I Like: Unique design; IPX5 weatherproof; Free app

What Needs Improvement: I’m not personally a fan of the design; A good speaker but “good” in this crowded market may not be enough
