Twelve South’s new SurfacePad for the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus is a luxurious way to carry your new iPhone. This portfolio-style case is wrapped in leather and contains two card pockets for ID or cards. The SurfacePad converts to a stand for videos or Facetiming; the SurfacePad for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus retails for $39.99 and $49.99, respectively.

The SurfacePad is adhered to the back of your iPhone using Twelve South’s SurfaceGrip which is an extremely adhesive surface that does not leave any residue once removed from your phone. The SurfacePad can be removed and reinstalled again and again with no loss of effectiveness.  The back of the case has a cutout that allows unobstructed use of your phone’s camera and flash.

The exterior of the SurfacePad is finished with Napa leather, and you can smell it. The leather exterior is buttery soft and it feels amazing in your hand. The interior of the SurfacePad is lined with microfiber that protects your phone’s screen and holds the phone in place when using the kickstand feature.

The kickstand feature is a nice touch and allows you to take full advantage of the improved iPhone 6 and 6 Plus screens. The SurfacePad secures your phone very well and there is no fear of the phone falling and getting damaged. You can also adjust the angle of your phone for the perfect media viewing.

The back and front of your phone are protected from everyday nicks and scratches that occur while dropping your phone in your purse, into your pocket, or onto the table. The SurfacePad was not designed to be a “rugged” case, and I appreciate that it doesn’t try to be. The sides of the iPhone, however, are completely exposed to the elements. If you drop your phone on the sides or corners on a hard surface, your phone may suffer scratches or dents.

All in all, Twelve South’s SurfacePad is an incredibly well made case that feels amazing in your hand and looks even better. If you’re in the market for a case that looks professional and is made of quality, long-lasting materials, this is the case for you. If, on the other hand, you’re looking for a case that will do a good job protecting your phone, you’ll want to look elsewhere. The lack of protection will be the main reason the SurfacePad will not be on my phone for an extended period of time.

What I Like:  Excellent design and build quality; Gorgeous buttery-soft leather; Built-in card slots and kickstand.

What Needs Improvement:  The SurfacePad does not provide much in the way of phone protection.
