Poetic FlipBook for Sony Xperia Z3 Review: Inexpensive Protection

My experience using my Sony Xperia Z2 on vacation as my in-pool ebook reader and underwater camera prompted me to pick up the Xperia Z3 when I got home. That meant I need a Sony Xperia Z3 case. That’s where Poetic came in. Their FlipBook is inexpensive protection simplicity.

Sony Xperia Z3 Case

The poetic FlipBook for the Z2 surprised me. It was inexpensive but far nicer than its low price suggested. That’s why I immediately ordered the version for the Z3. At $16 it’s anything but pricey. And yet it looks and feels great. There is, as you will see in the video review, one major flaw with this case but it doesn’t make it unusable. Far from it in fact.

From Poetic:

The word is out on the Poetic FlipBook. Boasting the handsome combination of a smooth synthetic cover with a matte black hard shell, this case melds all-around protection with prof ssional flair. With its mix of hardy materials and simple, refined design, the FlipBook is built to withstand bumps and shocks, as well as shifting trends. Kick back and watch videos with ease using the convenient viewing stand. Easily opened with a flick of your wrist, the FlipBook belongs on the Sony Xperia Z3 and in your hands.

This case is only compatible with the Sony Xperia Z3. They do, however, offer a version for the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. And as you might expect from the price, the case is made from a polyurethane synthetic leather. This synthetic cover is lined with Microfiber, fused with durable hard polycarbonate back shell.

Video Review of the Poetic FlipBook for the Sony Xperia Z3

As you can see this case is far nicer than the $16 price tag suggests. The phone snaps into the case easily and although the case holds the phone quite well it is also simple to remove the phone from it. Add in the fact that the case doubles as a viewing stand and you have something that is nice looking and functional without breaking the bank. It is surprising to me that the company kept the speaker cutouts in the same position as they were with the Z2 case even though the Xperia Z3 relocated the speakers. That means the cutout are simply decorative and, worse yet, there is no way to listen to the phone when the cover is in place. It’s a sloppy mistake but only noticeable since I do have the version for the Z2 as well. That noted, the case is quite nice and certainly usable. You can [Affiliate Link] get yours here.
