When I see something cool in an email or RSS feed, I check to see if it was covered by Gear Diary and I just missed it! Today I got a pre-order email for the Zagg Pocket Keyboard, a great mobile physical keyboard without the usual compromises, I was interested and saw we had done a YouTube preview!

You can get all of the details and pre-order here, but here are some key features:

Reimagine Email on Your Smartphone

The first of its kind, the Pocket Keyboard folds into an ultra-slim profile that’s made to travel. Its wireless Bluetooth® capability effortlessly syncs up with your Apple or Android device at a moment’s notice when words can’t wait. A magnetic closure preserves the battery by turning the Pocket Keyboard off when closed.

Portable Productivity

The ZAGG Pocket wireless Bluetooth® keyboard for iPhone and iPad is the easiest, on-the-go solution to smartphone typing. Delivering over 85% the size of a desktop keyboard, the Pocket maintains fast, natural typing, and then folds into a compact, protective case that easily fits into pockets and purses. And, unlike other folding keyboards, the Pocket folds between lines of keys to preserve comfortable key spacing so you can get more done, naturally.

Type Naturally

Unlike other folding keyboards that space keys awkwardly, the Pocket folds between rows of keys to maintain the spacing you’re used to. Plus, the Pocket maintains over 85% the typing space of a traditional keyboard

Go Anywhere

The Pocket folds into a convenient 9” X 2.5” X .5” rectangle that’s thin enough to go everywhere. Just slide it into a pocket or purse and go knowing the most portable solution to mobile typing is ready when you are.

My Thoughts

I have used Bluetooth keyboards since the earliest ones for Pocket PC PDAs more than a decade ago, and every single one has some sort of compromise. My favorite remains the iGo Stowaway, which kept the keys correctly position when folded out for use. Currently I have one from Perixx that folds across the middle of the keys and as a non-touch typist is very hard for me to just use. The new Microsoft folding keyboard has a similar design.

So I was immediately drawn to the Zagg Pocket Keyboard – although when folded it is a bit awkward, when in use (when it matters) it looks like the perfect mobile keyboard compromise for my iPhone 6 Plus!
